Offcanvas Section

You can publish whatever you want in the Offcanvas Section. It can be any module or particle.

By default, the available module positions are offcanvas-a and offcanvas-b but you can add as many module positions as you want from the Layout Manager.

You can also add the hidden-phone module class suffix to your modules so they do not appear in the Offcanvas Section when the site is loaded on a mobile device.

Stavros Kourkoulis graduated from the School of Mechanical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 1984. He prepared his Doctoral Thesis at the Laboratory of Testing and Materials of the NTUA entitled "Phenomena of instability of the direction of rapidly moving cracks" under the supervision of Academic Professor Periklis Theocharis and received his PhD in 1989 from the General Department of NTUA.

After his two-year military service (1989-1991) as a Probationary Reserve Lieutenant Engineer, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in European Research Programs, at the Department of Engineering at the University of Reading in the UK and in the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Artes et Metiers (ENSAM) in Bordeaux, France.

In 1996 he was elected a lecturer in the Department of Engineering of the General Department of NTUA. In 2014 he was elected Professor of "Experimental Engineering of the Deformable Solid" in the Department of Engineering of the School of Applied Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the NTUA (SEMFE / NTUA), a position he holds to this day. Since 2013 he has been teaching as a Professor of Engineering at the School of Technical Training of Engineer Officers (STEAMX) of the Hellenic Armed Forces. He is the Scientific Officer of the laboratory unit "Biomechanics of the Musculoskeletal System" of NTUA.

He was the Director of the Engineering Department of SEMFE / NTUA in the Academic year 2017-2018. In the Academic Year 2018-2019 he was elected Dean of the SEMFE / NTUA School. He is the president of the "Hellenic Society of Experimental Engineering of Materials".

His research work includes more than 100 articles published in prestigious international peer-reviewed journals and more than 200 articles published in the proceedings of international conferences. He has authored 3 textbooks in Greek and has edited as a guest editor the publication of the practical volumes of 5 international conferences. He has reviewed scientific papers in 96 scientific journals. He is the Section Editor of the scientific journal "Fracture and Structural Integrity".

He has supervised 6 doctoral dissertations while three more dissertations are being prepared. He has also supervised more than 20 Postgraduate Theses and more than 60 Diploma Theses.

He has implemented as a Scientific Officer and Principal Investigator 31 research programs with a total budget exceeding € 2,500,000, with funding from National and European funds but also from Private bodies.

His research interests focus on Experimental Strength of Materials, Musculoskeletal Bioengineering, Material Failure Criteria and Mechanical Behavior of Natural Building Stones with emphasis on the study of materials for the conservation and restoration of monuments.
